The American Indian OIC realizes that education is the foundation for successful employment. We provide Adult Basic Education (ABE) to prepare for the GED (General Educational Development) examination or for training entrance assessments. Students improve their reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and math. Classes are free and available to anyone. A waiver is required for youth under the age of 19 and an application can be arranged.
Initial math, reading, and writing assessments must be taken through the Adult Basic Education Test. The test is held every Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and testers must show up on time. Orientation will also be held during that time. The test results indicate if any courses are needed to pass the GED examination. Classroom hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:40 P.M. Instruction is available for English, math, social studies, and science. Tutoring is also available.
The cost for the GED examination is $120.00, and students may qualify for funding. Students may also retest sections of the exam for $25.00 each (5 sections in all).
