Career Immersion High School
The Career Immersion High School offers academic study to fulfill graduation requirements. We operate with a focus on career planning general employability skills. Our school has a unique, small class environment and our education style supports students that have not advanced through mainstream public schools. As part of the American Indian OIC, we work to fuse Native culture with our academic studies.

At our school, students can:

  • work toward earning their high school diploma from Minneapolis Public Schools.
  • earn additional credits beyond their daily schedules through extra coursework.
  • earn post-high school credits through PSEO (Post Secondary Enrollment Options) if they are in the 11th or 12th grade. This can include college courses or job-training programs.
  • attend class in the morning and can work in the afternoon. All students are encouraged to participate in job training and employment.

Eligibility and Enrollment

  • Students must be 14 to 21 years of age (9th – 12th grade)
  • Take an initial assessment test. The TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) test is approximately 3 hours and is offered Tuesdays from 9:30 to 1:00. Tester must arrive on time.
  • Take home and complete a career interest survey called the Career Decision Maker.
  • Interview with staff and complete any necessary paperwork.
  • Special Education students need to provide their IEP (Individual Education Plan) records 2 weeks prior to enrollment. IEP’s can be obtained from the last school attended

By completing the application process, youth are eligible for enrollment. However, availability is limited and entrance is highly competitive. We look for a willingness to learn, strong motivation, and an ability to complete tasks in a team setting. Enrollment occurs approximately every six weeks.

Improving Student Competencies
We teach students how to identify and use resources to complete a variety of projects. We focus on building time management and project development skills.

Students increase their interpersonal skills through team building, leadership development, improved negotiation skills, and the ability to work well with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Students strengthen their ability to use information through the data process. Students learn how to collect, evaluate, organize, interpret, and report on a variety of data or information sources.

We introduce students to social, organizational, and technological systems. Students learn to monitor, improve, design, and correct a range of systems while increasing their technological skills through using an assortment of technical equipment and troubleshooting problems.
