Through the Narrows with Native American & Jewish Youth
Thursday, April 22, 6:30PM
Through a cross cultural exchange, American Indian students from our Takoda Prep High School and Jewish youth from Bet Shalom Congregation have been exploring ideas about roots, identity, and resiliency. The Culture Coalition initiative will culminate in an online art event for the community on April 22. Through the Narrows highlights the common history of the groups.
Hear the youths’ collaboratively-written Land Acknowledgement and see animated videos they made with Z Puppets Rosenschnoz. Then, watch Z Puppets’ audio drama that intertwines the story of a Jewish woman crossing the Red Sea with a Cherokee child bearing witness to the Trail of Tears. At the program’s end, youth participants and Z artists will answer your questions.
Amid broad social unrest and the rise in hate crimes, this project highlights the power of finding common ground and learning about and from one other.
