Placement and Career Path
Persons in these positions can seek employment in variety of directions, including various rescue services. Openings in the Twin Cities area through 2012 are projected to increase by 44 percent per year, and EMT workers numbered nearly 4,000 in the state on the most recent statewide report. Those who complete the course and the National Registry testing (written and skills) can work for many agencies if they are 18 years of age or older and maintain EMT skills by completing continuing education hours. Workers in this field must interact with people in pain and under stress, must remain calm, and perform physically strenuous work both indoors and outdoors. They must drive safely and quickly through traffic while obeying traffic safety laws.

This is an extended course that includes additional skills: defensive driving, hazardous materials/terrorism training, professional level CPR, and other courses that make the graduate a desirable employment prospect.
