Financial Aid Student financial aid is available in eligible programs for students who qualify. The School participates in the Pell Grant program, Minnesota State Grant (MHESO), Minnesota Indian Scholarship Assistance Program, and other grant programs. Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants and Work-Study may also be available to qualifying students.
Students can be admitted when the financial aid application package is completed. Students eligible for funding in more than one consecutive fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) will be required to apply for both years.
Applying for Aid
All applicants for financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each fiscal year. The form must be given to the Financial Aid Officer. Applicants should do this at least 4 weeks before they plan to begin school. Some aid takes 6-8 weeks to process, and some aid is not available in some quarters.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
- All financial aid applicants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each fiscal year. The School participates in an electronic filing system for this application, so the form must be given to the Financial Aid Officer. Applicants should do this at least 4 weeks before they plan to begin school. Some aid takes 6-8 weeks to process, and some aid is not available in some quarters. For students who want to apply directly, complete the online application procedure at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This application will require our school code which is 016346.
- Ability to benefit clause: All applicants who are applying for financial aid must demonstrate the ability to benefit from (or successfully complete) their chosen program of study. For this reason, applicants will need to complete the school enrollment form and meet testing requirements.
- The Financial Aid Officer will help applicants determine other funding that they can qualify for. For example, applicants who are enrolled members of any American Indian tribe may be eligible for the State Indian Scholarship program after they have resided in the State of Minnesota for one year. Minnesota residents can apply at www.mheso.state.mn.us. Students can also apply for individual tribal funding if they qualify.
- In order for the School to process applications for financial aid in an efficient manner, applicants need to obtain all the required documentation for verification purposes, such as their federal tax forms for the previous year (for example, we will need the 2008 forms for application during the 2009-2010 school year). They should bring a copy of a GED or a high school diploma, and documentation of any monies received from public assistance, social security, etc. American Indian applicants should also bring their blood degree verification.
- Federal and state law requires that applicants submit a Financial Aid Transcript (FAT) from all schools that they have previously attended. Applicants may get this request form from a Student Service Representative or the Financial Aid Officer or from the previously attended school.
