Honoring Dr. Lee Antell: A Life of Service and Dedication

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Lee Antell, former President and CEO of the American Indian OIC. A devoted leader, educator, and member of the White Earth Nation, Dr. Antell dedicated his life to advancing opportunities for Native American students and serving his community with unwavering kindness and commitment. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, both through his professional work and his love for his family.

It is with heavy hearts that the American Indian OIC shares the news that our former President and CEO, Dr. Lee Antell, passed away over the weekend.

Dr. Antell served as the President and CEO of the American Indian OIC for 15 years (1999 – 2014) – until his retirement in May of 2014.

For those of us who were lucky enough to have worked with Lee, were privileged to have known a very kind, sweet, and dedicated servant to his community. He was a man who took pride in advancing the cause of improving education for all Native American students.

A citizen of the White Earth Nation, Lee was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family knew no bounds.

Thank you, Lee – for all that you did for our people and for our community. We know that your spirit will be smiling bright with every Native American student who crosses that stage, adorned with the traditional gown and mortarboard, eagle feather as a tassel, clutching their well-earned diploma.

Hopefully, as we know you will be paying attention, our beloved Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings will make a run this year and make us laugh again – but for the right reasons.
